October 1999 Presented a paper to the Association of Preservation Technology (APT) "Winds of Change", 31 st Conference, Banff, Alberta, Canada

Attended associated APT training course on the conservation of Exterior Wood Conservation and Protection September-October 1994

Attended the 4th International course on the Preservation of the Earthen Architectural Heritage organised by The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, Rome (ICCROM), the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), the Centre International de la Construction en Terre and l'Ecole d'Architecture de Grenoble.

The course covers all aspects of the conservation of heritage buildings constructed in earth and is taught by the international experts in the various fields covered.

I am the first New Zealander to have attended the course and the first from the Asia and South Pacific area.

April-June 1991 Attended the 9th International Course on Stone Conservation organised by UNESCO and ICCROM in Venice. This course is biannual and is the most intensive international post graduate course on all aspects of the conservation of stone. Access to the course is very competitive and is restricted to persons qualified in conservation.

May-June 1988 Attended International Seismic Isolation/Historic Preservation Symposium, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, after which I visited historic building conservation organisations and projects in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and California. I gave lectures on conservation in New Zealand to Service Centres of the US National Park Service.
