Design Guidelines for Savage Crescent, (1996) Palmerston North, Client: Palmerston North City Council These guidelines were commissioned to guide owners of buildings in this unique state housing settlement to retain heritage values while promoting new design.

Ken Gray Memorial, (1996), Battle Hill, Wellington Client: Wellington Regional Council. An historic woolshed on Battle Hill farm is being adapted to allow school children to observe the operations of the farm, as a memorial to Wellington Regional Councillor, Ken Gray.

Conservation of the Auckland Town Hall (1994), Auckland (current) Client: Auckland City Council Position Held: Architectural Conservator, architect The class 1 registered stone clad building is be conserved and adapted for compatible uses following the conservation plan and user requirements, in conjunction with JASMAX architects.

Conservation Plan for Olveston, Dunedin , supervision of conservation works (1994) Client: NZ Lotteries Grants Board The Lotteries Commission granted a substantial sum to the Oamaru limestone Theomin Gallery (Olveston) and in order to guarantee conservation of the building was carried out according to good conservation practice, a conservation plan was commissioned.

Conservation advice to the Wellington City Council (current) Client: Wellington City Council Environment Division The advice given includes writing conservation oriented sections of the district plan including criteria for listing, adaptation of heritage buildings, facade retention, conservation planning, and compiling the list of heritage buildings, trees, objects and areas. The position also includes the servicing of the heritage committee and assessing applications for alterations of listed buildings.

Conservation Plan for Woodstock, Stoke, Nelson (1993) Client: Private The house is one of Nelson's most significant cob buildings and new owners required advice on its long term conservation.

Conservation plans and maintenance plans for Isel, Broadgreen and Melrose, Nelson (1993) Client: The Nelson City Council These house museums are significant heritage buildings and the task involves giving conservation advice through the medium of conservation and maintenance plans.

Conservation plans for Molesworth Estate, Marlborough (1993) Client: Department of Conservation The cob buildings on the Molesworth Estate are of great significance to the history of the estate, New Zealand farming, and the vernacular use of earth as a building material.

The Conservation Plans established the heritage value of the buildings and recommended conservation policies Exterior conservation of the Auckland Town Hall (1993-1994), Auckland Client: Auckland City Council, Private Bag, Wellesley Street, Auckland. Position Held: Architectural Conservator, Principal Consultant, coordinating Structural Engineers, City Council Architects, Quantity Surveyors, and Clerk of Works.

The immediate necessary repairs and strengthening to the Oamaru limestone identified in the Conservation Plan are being carried out as are other urgent exterior maintenance items. The work involves the design, documentation, and observation of stone repairs, consolidation, piecing-in, restoration, repointing, and flashings. An exterior maintenance plan has been commissioned.

Te Kahuoterangi and the Whare, Kapiti, Quail Island Barracks and Ripapa Island. Conservation Plans, Lyttelton Harbour (1992-1993) Client: Department of Conservation These significant archaeological masonry sites, and heritage structures are owned by DoC who commissioned the conservation plans to guide future conservation.

Palmerston North Heritage Audit, Palmerston North (February 1993-July 1993) Client; The Palmerston North City Council, Palmerston North The assessment of the central business district of Palmerston North to determine buildings and areas of built cultural heritage value for listing on the district plan. Recommendations for longer term urban conservation were also included.

Conservation Plan and Condition Survey, Auckland Town Hall, (June 1992-March 1993), Auckland Client: Auckland City Council, Auckland The Assessment of Significance of the building had been completed in 1988, and this was updated with the writing of the Conservation Policy Section. Special attention was paid to the conservation of the exterior limestone. The condition survey, on which future maintenance is to be based, was updated from that done in 1988.

BNZ Conservation Plan (October 1992-January 1993) Position held: Architectural Conservator, Architect The buildings have been empty for 4 years, and they have a protection notice on them. The City Council, as owners wish to sell the buildings conditional on their appropriate conservation. The conservation plan, and condition survey were commissioned to enable an agreement to be drawn up with potential purchasers to ensure the long term adaptation and care of the buildings.

Benhar Hoffman Kiln Conservation Plan, (1992-1993) Client: The New Zealand Historic Places Trust The kiln was damaged after the owner attempted to demolish the structure. A heritage order was placed on the building and a condition placed on the order was the commissioning of e conservation plan to guide to conservation and adaptation of the structure.

Nelson Heritage Study, Nelson (June 1992-December 1992) Clients; NZ Historic Places Trust, Wellington and the Nelson City Council, Nelson The assessment of the central business district of Nelson to determine buildings and areas of built cultural heritage value for listing on the district plan. Recommendations for longer term urban conservation were also included.

Shannon Railway Station Conservation Plan, Shannon (1992) Client: The New Zealand Rail Heritage Trust, Wellington The Shannon Railway Station is the last remaining station of the Wellington Manawatu Railway Line and is a significant heritage building. A conservation plan was commissioned to guide restoration of the building and its adaptation.

Conservation/Rehabilitation of the Wellington Town Hall (Documentation January 1990-October 1990, Construction December 1990-January, 1992), Wellington Client: Wellington City Council The Wellington Town Hall was strengthened and replanned for a greater intensity of use. The significant areas and fabric were identified for especial conservation treatment and which were designed, documented, and observed.

Conservation Plan, Wooden Government Building (July 1991-January 1992), Wellington Client: Department of Conservation, Wellington Conservancy, PO Box 5086, Wellington Ownership of the Wooden Government Building has recently transferred to DoC, who requested a Conservation Plan to guide its future use, conservation, and the selection of a suitable tenant. A Condition survey was completed as part of the conservation plan. Previously Works had completed the conservation and strengthening of the foundations.

Restoration of Christ Church, Taita, (1991), Upper Hutt Client: St Matthews Parish, Taita, The church, one of the oldest in New Zealand was partially destroyed by an arsonist, and the project required the building to be restored to its form prior to the fire, matching original materials, and details.

Conservation advice following the Newcastle Earthquake (1990), Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia Client: Public Works Department Following the December 28 earthquake, the PWD required the services professionals with experience in earthquake reporting and repair. The commission required that a model reporting procedure be established and a campus of architecturally significant buildings were chosen for the task.

Rowing Club Relocation and Conservation (1989-90), Wellington Client: Lambton Harbour Management Ltd., Wellington The project involved 2 stages, the first being the condition survey for relocation (the buildings had been relocated before). The second stage was the design, documentation and observation of the relocation, repair and restoration of two historic Rowing Club buildings, a new building connecting the two, and redesigning a lagoon in front of the buildings.

Dunedin Railway Station Conservation Plan (October 1989-December, 1989) Client: New Zealand Railways, Private Bag, Wellington The preparation of a conservation plan of New Zealand's greatest piece of architecture, including a condition survey, and outline maintenance plan. Research on the building was carried out by J Dangerfield.

Government House refurbishment (1986-93), Wellington Client: Department of Internal Affairs The project involved the progressive upgrading of the staff office accommodation and the replanning of the ballroom entrance, including a porte cochere, and associated facilities.

Patrick Street Historic Precinct Conservation Principles and Design Guidelines, Petone (1989) Client: Lower Hutt City Council The project involved the initiating of an historic precinct, its inclusion on the District Scheme, and the writing of the design guidelines and conservation principles.

Battle Hill cottage refurbishment (1989-90), Wellington Client: Wellington Regional Council An historic cottage used as a farm managers residence for the Battle Hill farm required refurbishing for modern living and an extension for further accommodation.

Consultant to the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, (1986-present), nationwide, including conservation plans for NZHPT owned earth buildings Client: New Zealand Historic Paces Trust Most commissions involve reporting on buildings owned by or in the care of the Trust. Services range from Preventative Cyclical Maintenance Plans, Conservation Plans, to building condition reports.

Premier House, 260 Tinakori Road Conservation Plan(1989-90), Wellington Client: Department of Internal Affairs A Conservation Plan was required to establish the cultural significance of the 'A' classified previous Prime Ministerial Residence.

Christ Church, Taita, Preventative Cyclical Maintenance Plan, (1989) Client: Christ Church, Taita Preservation Society The Society wished to ensure the future preservation of the 'B' classified historic church by commissioning the Maintenance Plan which looked at all levels of maintenance from housekeeping to periodic maintenance.

Conservation of Dairy Factory, Palmerston North, (1988) Client: DSIR The building, the first in the Massey Campus, is constructed of concrete, with Marseille tile roof, and required conservation of the exterior. This project received a NZIA award.

Katherine Mansfield Birthplace Conservation Plan, (1988) Client: Katherine Mansfield Birthplace Society Position Held, Architectural Conservator/Architect A Conservation Plan was written to assess the cultural significance of the building and to recommend future conservation measures.

Old Saint Paul's Preventative Cyclical Maintenance Plan, (1987) Client: Ministry of Works and Development The Preventative Cyclical Maintenance Plan was written to ensure the long term preservation of the building using the best most economical means.
