Building Projects

Ian has been commissioned as project architect or conservation architect on
a huge range of projects from restoration of DoC huts, to the conservation
of Government House, Parliament buildings, town halls and theatres.

Ian was appointed conservation architect to Government House where the
project began with Ian writing the conservation plan that guided the overall
conservation project, taking four years.

Town Hall projects include those in Auckland, Wellington, and Westport.

Theatres and cinema projects inlcude the St James and Embassy Theatres in
Wellington, the Regent Theatre in Palmerston North, the Gaiety Theatre in
Akaroa and the Hokitika and Greymouth Regent theatres.

Museum projects include the Dominion Museum, Wellington Maritime Museum,
Nairn Street Cottage and Katherine Mansfield’s in Wellington, Dunedin
Gasworks, Nicol’s Blacksmiths in Duntroon, the Aaroa Museum and Customhouse
and Isel House in Nelson.

Ian has advised on over 200 church projects from Matakohe to Dunedin
including the Nelson and Dunedin Cathedrals, the Wellington, Christchurch,
and Timaru Basilicas and many parish churches.

Ian has advised DoC on many structures throughout New Zealand in Kawau
Island, Wanganui, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.  His
expertise in stone and earth building conservation has been utlised on these
projects particularly.
